Crappies are
very much a school fish-so it is usually "feast or famine"
for fisherman. Sn\low trolling is a good way to locate them.
Summer crappies
may be located in and around weedbeds or near bull rushes
providing the water is 6' deep or more.
Fall and winter
Crappies seek deepter water, sometimes as much as 30' or 40'
down.
Crappies have
a relatively small mouth; use minnows or small jigs baited
with tiny minnows.
Crappie mouths
are tender, carry a landing net for the big "slabs".
Crappies usually
bite with a delicate touch. If a bobber is used, be sure it
is the "pencil" type or small enough that it will
respond to the slightest touch. Watch your bobber very closely
for even the slightest movement.
Crappies are
often in the weeds but will sometimes feed just above them.
they can be effectively fished at these times with a fly rod
or with a spinning rod, bobber and live bait-with only about
a foot and one-half of line between the bober and the minnow.
Crappies will
feed almost anytime of the day or night.
