Cross
Country Skiing

The Ely area
is famous for its cross country ski trails and it offers groomed
classic and skate style skiing in our unique northwoods.
As we enter
our second year of sponsoring the Bear Island Ski Trail we are
please to announce that the Forest Service has allowed us to
extend the wooded section of the trail system! Plus, this season
we will also be grooming the ski trail for BOTH classic and
skate style skiing.
For years
guests have enjoyed the nearby Bear Island ski trail but last
season our guests were invited to experience the winter beauty
of Bear Island Lake on the trail loop that wraps around our
shoreline and loops around the first island. Bear Island Lake
offers a peaceful scenic backdrop all year long but in the winter
it is especially serene-perfect for skiers. Another great way
to simply get away from it all.
Ski the entire
trek from the lodge and back for a nearly 6 mile outing:

Track
and watch for moose, deer and timberwolves! Try moonlight
skiing this winter! Use our complimentary Moon Phase calculator
